Rove

AI Travel Planner

An AI, based travel planner that helps users organize personalized trips with ease and joy. Focused on simplifying planning flows and reducing decision fatigue.

The Brief

Trip planning is broken. We fixed that.

Users juggle 2-3 apps, drown in options, and still end up confused. Routes, attractions, accommodation, timing, all scattered across different tools. The goal was simple: bring everything into one place that actually thinks for the traveler.

Users want personalization, not complexity

Tailored recommendations matter, but too many options at once overwhelm rather than help.

Planning and discovery are connected

Users expect tools to suggest routes and attractions, not require manual searching across platforms.

Clarity beats feature quantity

A clear, consistent interface matters more than exposing every possible feature.

The real problem

Too many choices, too little guidance. Users need something that simplifies decisions without removing control.

User Testing

After designing the initial solution, we tested with real users to evaluate clarity, flow, and overall usability. Three key areas surfaced that needed iteration.

Getting started

Before
Users felt overwhelmed when starting a new trip and weren’t sure where to begin.

After
We introduced a guided onboarding flow that asked about interests and priorities first.

Managing details

Before
Important info (dates, reservations) was easy to miss during planning.

After
Clear visual hierarchy and reminders for critical moments in the trip.

Keeping it lightweight

Before
Interface felt heavy as more features were added during development.

After
Simplified layouts, unified components into a single design system.

The Solution

One place. Everything in it.

Rove was designed as a single, cohesive travel planning experience  bringing planning, discovery, and organization into one flow.

Instead of switching between multiple platforms, users build personalized trips based on their interests, timing, and priorities.

Guided onboarding, clear structure, and thoughtful personalization reduce decision fatigue while keeping the experience flexible for different travel styles.

Reflection

What I learned. What I'd do differently.

01

Prioritization is a design skill

Working on a complex, feature-rich product taught me that deciding what NOT to build is just as important as what you build.
02

User testing changed the product

Real testing, not the assumptions, simplified the experience and shaped the most important final design decisions.
03

Collaboration sharpens vision

Working closely throughout the process strengthened my ability to communicate clearly, adapt quickly, and align on a shared direction.
04

If I had just more time

I'd expand user testing to validate the solution at scale, and explore more edge cases in the trip planning flow.
